You are Not Alone – Father’s love exchange for loneliness

The human heart has struggled with loneliness since the beginning of time. Sometimes you can be surrounded by people but still feel disconnected and lonely. I’ve been asking myself lately why that is? We all have needs, we all have desires within us waiting to be fulfilled but even when that happens, we still struggle with the lingering entanglements of loneliness.

So what is the cause? Ecclesiastes 3:11 is one of my favourite ever scriptures, ‘God has set eternity in the hearts of man’, when we find our place in the eternal love of God we are completely at peace within ourselves. We can’t get enough of God, we spend so much time in prayer, worship and reading His word! We are so eager to feel His presence and be with Him all the time and then life happens! We walk through life and face trials, tribulations or just get bogged down with our normal routine and suddenly that first encounter with the eternal, all consuming love of God begins to grow cold and our hearts become apathetic and distant to what we once held dear. Our prayer times become less frequent and shorter, our Bible reading is reduced to random peoples Facebook posts and our only source of worship is a Sunday morning service squeezed in between a busy week. And all of a sudden, loneliness creeps in.

What is the solution? The root of loneliness is distance from God. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing that can separate us from the love of god! But what I’m talking about is that intimacy with God… Being with Him, hearing His heartbeat, feeling His presence in your every day activities, seeing His word illuminate our path and direct our days. That continual feeling of being united with Him all day every day and acknowledging Him in all your ways and watching and beholding Him in all his glory in the every day monotonous routines or the fiery trials. Did you know you can walk through the most horrendous times in your life with peace? Dare I say it, even joy? Some of the darkest times in my life have been the most intimate times with God, growing in the knowledge of His Holy Spirit comforting me and helping me through. James 4:8 tells us that when we ‘draw near to God, He will draw near to you’ but there is a condition to that intimacy! James 4:7 says ‘humble yourselves before God, resist the devil and he will flee from you.’

Recently God has highlighted that ‘devil’ in my life as fear, worry and anxiety. Last Monday, I took heed of this little scripture, I submitted to God, I lay down my fears and sought first Gods Kingdom and everything that I needed was met within His presence. That loneliness and feeling like things aren’t working out was melted away in His peace and the eternal, all consuming love of God broke into the situation I was facing and restored my heart with hope and infused it with peace.

So I say to you today beloved ones of God, are you feeling lonely? What is the ‘devil’ in your life taunting you and keeping you from seeing Gods face? He has never left you or forsaken you, he is continually with you holding your hand and guiding your path. Submit yourself to Him, seek His face and watch the obstacles fade away into His glorious presence because you are not alone.
